Online Education and Improving Society

As the global economic crisis continues, many high school students are feeling the pressure to drop out and enter the work force before all the good jobs are taken. Maybe, they have a parent who is sick and can’t work, or their siblings do not have enough to eat and more money is needed to provide food. Perhaps, the student has been failing classes because the teachers do not care about teaching or providing a good education. The student may not want to try any more and figure getting job would be better than suffering through another year of high school.

Whatever the reasons, these students are torn between needing and education and getting a job. Too many are choosing to drop out and get jobs. As a society that prides itself on education, we have an obligation to these drop out students to help them get the education that they need and deserve. It is their right to have a high diploma and a college degree, but how can we reach so many drop outs? The same way everyone gets in contact these days, the internet.

An online education program that focuses on continuing your education would allow these drop out students a chance to stop living from paycheck to paycheck. This alone would help improve the high school drop out rate and the percentage of students that go to college. Many of these students need a flexible solution in order to pursue an education. Elearners gives each student a chance to work at their own pace. This could be the difference between making minimum wage and getting a higher salary. The online education courses can also help build self-esteem. By giving these drop out students an online alternative, we are helping them learn and improving society.
